Hot Tub Roof Terrace Decking - East London
The client in East London commissioned us to install a hardwood area encasing a hot tub, along with raised edging to the hedges on a highly desirable London roof terrace.
The project involved the removal of the old soft wood cladding and decking, but (in line with the management company) using the existing sealed frame work. This project was on the 17th floor of a high rise building alongside the River Thames. This made access an issue as all materials had to be maneuvered up through the building.
We started by removing the existing softwood decking and cladding, digging out the front edge of the existing lawn to expose the underlying membrane and timber edge. We installed a Geotextile Sheet under the exposed lawn (overlapping the existing), with Yellow Balau vertical facing boards and Western Red Cedar coping to create the new hedge surrounds.
We intended to use the existing framework of the hot tub surround, unfortunately, we found large sections of this was damaged and had to be replaced. The framework was further protected by installing a marine grade Plywood, with an additional coating of waterproof sealant applied. This area was then clad in Yellow Balau, with Western Red Cedar cut to curved sections and installed to create the coping surround.
We finished off the hedge surround by reinstalling LED Strip Lighting and replacing the lawn at the new level. The new timber was not oiled as per the management company's request, it does however carry a 15 year warranty against insect attack and decay and will silver over time giving the desired appearance.
The project end outcome a very happy client with a modern clean design in a breath-taking location
